Principal Aims

The principle aims of the Society are to protect the interests of residents and businesses and to enhance the environment we all share. These aims are put into practice through the work of sub-committees open to all members of the Society. Mandates have been agreed within the Society's membership setting out criteria against which planning and licensing applications are judged. Policies have been adopted to counter anti-social developments, noise pollution or saturation of the area by land and building uses which degrade the environment or militate against residents or existing businesses.

Community Events

The Society is responsible for community events such as the renowned Soho Festival - an annual event since 1973. It is represented on most Soho and many Westminster organisations. Society members have founded many other local bodies including the Soho Housing Association and the Museum of Soho. A recent Museum of Soho exhibition, "The Blitz - from Disaster to Triumph", celebrated Soho's recovery from the effects of World War II, the re-emergence of a sense of community and the rebuilding of the church, flats and community facilities on the bombed St Anne's site.
