In the Soho Clarion for Autumn-Winter 2001, in a note about Soho Open House, it was written that ... "Over 300 visitors climbed the stone spiral staircase up to the clockroom where eminent horologist Beresford Hutchinson explained how the Parish Clock works. Made in 1874 (same year as Shaftesbury Avenue was built) the clock was then guaranteed and still now runs to a maximum variation of +/- 2 seconds a week. The bell on which the clock strikes was cast by Mears & Stainbank (still in Whitechapel) in 1691." The name of Bill Rest was also noted. He was a well known Soho clockmaker.

Dear Sir,
It's back! After ten long months a welcome return has been made to Soho by that old favourite The Denny's Clock. We hope it will now alleviate the frustration that has built up amongst residents and visitors alike when wondering what time the pubs will open! Our thanks to everyone who waited patiently for this time-keeping legend to reappear.
P. Denny & Co.
