Following an initiative by Westminster City Council to re-brief Soho's parking attendants the number of tickets for parking offences has fallen by a much welcomed 15%. The re-brief also saw a change to the attendant’s incentive scheme which had caused outrage amongst residents and business people alike earlier in 2004 when it was announced that attendants would be awarded for performance with financial and material incentives.
The drop in tickets has also seen a massive reduction in the number of complaints received by Westminster Council, which at one point were being presented at a rate of almost 6,000 a week, this figure has now dropped to around 3000 and the number continues to fall. Westminster's Councils cabinet member responsible for parking, Councillor Colin Barrow said in a statement: We accept that at the start of this year we had got things wrong and have been working with NCP, to put things right with a more sensible fair parking service which will lead the way for the rest of London.
